Melrose serves the communities of Maxfield and surrounding areas, supporting children’s learning, character and development.
Our story
Melrose Primary & Infant School was founded in 1964 under Principal Isaiah Jackson, with eighteen teachers and 930 students. Successive boards, dedicated staff and engaged parents have helped shape a school committed to high academic and moral standards.
“Only the Best is Good Enough.”
“Promoting a better quality of life through discipline, hard work, and creativity.”
We are committed to uplifting the young people of our community through academic, social, spiritual, moral, cultural and practical activities, equipping each student to fulfil their potential and contribute to the community and nation.
Education develops the spirit, mind, body and character. Our qualified, caring staff support holistic development in an environment that cultivates excellence.
Mrs. Keisha Waller welcomes new and returning families to a school where every child should feel safe, supported and inspired to excel. Student success is a shared responsibility, built on open communication and partnership between home and school.

Beyond the classroom
Our activities help students discover their talents, build confidence, practise teamwork and develop creativity, leadership and problem-solving skills.
Our Special Education Unit and Sensory Room support students with special needs within the school’s available provision. Placement requires an official Ministry referral or valid psycho-educational assessment and an agreed Individual Intervention Plan, reviewed each term.
Contact the school office to discuss assessment, placement and available support for your child.
